Why do some people find it unnecciary to spank their children(Not beat them that is wrong) but a slap on the butt when they are misbehaving. I have seen parents who let their children run wild and make no attempt at teaching them manners or decent behavior when in public. These children walk all over thier parents and they do nothing about it. i would like too know why that is.

Brooky two i can tell that you are either one of those parents who can sit by idle while your child runs wild making life hell for everyone around you or you simply do not have children of your own. Too all those parents who are oblivious to your childrens bad behavior get off your lazy butts and teach them some manners. If you want to let them run wild perhaps you should eat in the park. I personal think that these types of parents are too lazy to teach thier children right from wrong. They cannot teach themselve something they know nothing about so dont expect them to magically mature into respectable adults they wont.

i cannot understand this either!!
if a child is disruptive in a restaurant- for example-
and the parents do nothing... it just kills me!!!
it teaches the child that they can act this way and its okay.... SHAME ON THOSE PARENTS!
i believe a child should be disciplined ( for all the RIGHT reasons) you know.. to teach them respect others and be a polite child.... manners can go a long way...
i have taught my children ( 9&10) that there is only 1 chance to make a good first impression.......that's how people will know you

It's a belief and or an inability to parent properly. I see this daily, some parents address it as the child gets older. They run into complications with the child because it thinks it's the boss and the change over can be a hard road but worth it. Some think the child will out grow the behavior. But they usually do not understand the these are the fundamental years were they gain their life long habits. I really believe many do not understand this or it's back to my opinion that apathy and denial are so infiltrated into our society that many don't even recognize it anymore. Ok I will get off my soap box now. Good Q and I hope this helps you out. Be thankful you are aware and not one of these people.

This is a lack of parenting, not a lack of spanking. There is a difference. Spanking is still hitting, we can go to jail for hitting our pets faster than our children. This is proposterous!
I believe people spank because they were spanked.
I believe people are afraid of what they don't understand.
I believe children are supposed to run wild and are not miniature adults.
Finally, children are capable of understanding right from wrong and with a little training and hardwork, parents can learn techniques to discipline children without hurting them.
When you spank your child, you teach them that hitting when you are mad is okay, then you spank them again when they are mad and hit you. Talk about mixed messages.
If I see you hit your kid in public....I'll call the police!
If I hear you hit your kid behind closed doors....again, I'll call the police!
Children need protection, guidance, love, etc....not brutality!!!
Learn a new method for crying out loud! You'll be helping yourself and your children!!

When I was a child, I got a swat on the @ss if I disrespected or disobeyed what I was told. I was not beaten, but I got smacked now and then. It kept me in line and I knew better than to talk back to my parents or run amuck, screaming. I KNEW BETTER than that after feeling that slap. I didn't like it then, but I am fine with that now. I was not traumatized or marked and I am not abusive as an adult, either. It worked out fine.

i wish i knew. i work in a restaurant, and running children are a hazard. they run and their parents sit and chat seemingly oblivious to the fact that their child may be hurt or cause havoc. not all eateries have a playland!! anyway, i would like to point out that teaching and expecting a child to behave in a certain manner is discipline- spanking is punishment.

Isn't it the most aggravating thing to see and put up with? Even in church, children want to run around and the parents let them. In resturants children are screaming and running around. I have seen 4 year olds telling their parents off and getting away with it. I shudder to think what kind of adults they will turn out to be.......

Most people are afraid of offending others, including their children. A light swat on the bum gets the attention of the child, when it's not intended as punishment.

When you figure that one out let me know.... . because i am trying to figure that one out myself.....From my point,, From what i have witnessed.... the children dont turn out to want or have an direction in life.. Until something hits them head on . And they have to realize wow..
