I have been an executive for 10 years and am looking to finally get a college degree, would like to know if I can use my business experience to bypass some courses as I know I am better schooled than a typical freshman.

Hi!

I hear that University of Phoenix (online) does... I think there is some kind of accelerated degree program for business people who have been working at their job for more than three years...

Check them out...

There are various ways of doing this. Some schools opt out of credits and others opt out of courses. Since you are going for a four year degree and probably going part-time, you should attempt to opt out of credits. That means you would attend for less time rather than take harder courses. On the other hand, the better regarded universities may only opt you out of courses, so if university reputation is important to you, that may be your better option. There are universities that will let you opt out of a course by taking the final and paying a small fee. I myself chose a university that gave me credits for almost a year of my coursework and then let me take a few tests for six more credits. It was an M.B.A. program and it took me six years to get through 12 courses!

Most reputable schools won't due to regulations by their accrediting board. Sorry but just because you've been an exec for 10 years doesn't mean anything. It doesn't prove that you know the basics of cost accounting for example. Also if you go in with the attitude of I know more than other students and the teach you will most likely fail.
