Someone told me that the reason my family is experiencing financial hardship is because of poor feng shiu. My front door only opens halfway as there is a cupboard containing the electricity meter just behind it. Previous inhabitants of this house have also had bad luck with health and finances too. I am sceptical but curious! Any suggestions welcome.

Although front doors have a major part to play in feng shui, your wealth misfortune could well be in other areas of your house, even outside. There are major points to consult in all aspects. Get a good book by Lillian Too maybe, to cover all areas. If not, find your southeastern corner of your home, make sure it has no clutter or dead plants, activate that corner with some coins in a pot or a healthy plant. Also activate the Northern corner of your house for career success, with a windchime or water feature, but no plants!
Just inside your front door, place a hollow metal windchime to brake up any bad chi that this front door could be causing inside your home.

My front door is the same, only opening half way.

I believe that the feng shui in the room (lounge) that it opens into is improved by the candelabra (not my choice but my landlord's I hasten to add!) and a small shrine in an enclave where a fire could be fitted (which includes a fat buddah-for peace, oil burner-for spirituality, love letter from my finace-for love of course, jar of pennies-for wealth and toy monkey-for fun!). I have also added a rug to the laminate floor to give the room a softer feel.

Feng shui no-no's include cacti (which I don't stick to, I have a cactus but a wind chime is hung above it which is meant to counteract bad feng shui) and lots of mirrors because both are meant to do funny things to the chi energy.

As Douglas Adams said, try imagining how a dragon would feel walking around your house. If he would be knocking things off with his tail or having to squeeze through gaps, your house has bad feng shui.

Besides opening all the way, the door itself should be in a good condition. Freshly painted, with a neat sign stating the number / your name(s) if it's a flat.

Although the door area is not the area for wealth - it's the one for career development (there is a separate one for money). And health - that means the general feng shui energy is low.

Generally, the most potent tool of feng shui is elimiation of clutter. Is there a closet / neglected room in the farthers corner to the left, when your back is to the door? It may be the garage, in a house, or something like that (the farhest to the left, or, I think, norht-west in the classic interpretation, is the money / prosperity area). Any cluttered area of the house is considered one that evokes bad energy...

i think you are missing the point. there are many causes of a bad fengshui, and they don't involve an electrical meter near your door.

examples are maybe your door facing (specific degree to which it faces) might be having a bad effect on your life, you can consult a fengshui master to get a good facing and tilt your door to correct.

next, the period of your house might not be timely anymore. changing the period involves changing the door, changing the roof, and doing major renovations inside the house. this solutions vary from one master to the next. or a simpler way is to activate mountain 8 and water 8 of the flying star chart of your house, to make it timely again.

in authentic chinese fengshui, your fortune lies in degree to which your main door faces, as in a specific degree in 360 degrees. there are good and bad facings. and in most cases, the difference is just half a degree! you can change your fortune by changing the degree of your door (and get a new door while you are at it).

in fengshui, the outside of a front must be open, has a large space and must be well-lit esp at night.

you need a joiner and an electrician, fung shui didn't take into account the positioning of that kind of energy flow.
I am a great magician, you need to move the electricity meter to improve the natural flow of the front door, it will bring you good spirit in the home as you will not be so pissed off all the time.

My understanding is that if your front door opens straight onto your stairs and at the top of your stairs is the toilet the money you bring home (through the front door) travels directly up stairs and down the crapper

also if your front door is directly in liner with your back door the money goes straight in and straight out - you need to trap some of this possitive energy by using baffles (beaks in the throughfare)

I'm not an expexrt, but I do know that a green front door helps your money flow inwards and keeping the loo seats down keeps money from flowing outwards. Find out about hanging crystals in certain areas too.

Take door throw in skip or next doors garden (providing no one is looking) adopt an open free for all policy, things are sure to improve - free air flow for your health not to sure about the finance side though.

Could it be that you are spending to much elsewhere and as for the front door, ask the electricity board if it is possible to move the contents behind the door. Next!!
