so i set up my computer and there is 5-6 wireless signals that i get. and a couple of them are unlocked. can i go on them? will i get in trouble? is it safe? some of them are titled (yo mammas wireless internet) and some aren't (linksys). i would guess the unnamed ones are people who don't really know what they are doing. if you could give me some advice about this, it would be great.

You are free to use the unsecured wireless networks you see. It's highly likely that the people who own them won't know you're there, and it should be safe to use them, unless those networks somehow get a virus on them. I have used lots of unsecured wireless networks, and I've never had a problem, except that their range is limited because they're not transmitting through my house - just someone else's.

It's always safer to get your own wireless router and secure it. They're now as cheap as $25 from Best Buy (Linksys is a good manufacturer), and that way you'll know that you're the owner of the network, and nobody else is on it.

Good luck!

maximum probable those instantaneous networks you're identifying on up belong to human beings, and it isn't O.ok. to apply them, even with the reality that in the journey that they are unsecured. Technically, it really is taken under consideration stealing, because you have become an information superhighway service from a service and not in any respect paying for it. Your basically right wager is to pay for your own service, and in case you do get instantaneous, ascertain you safeguard it with a password.
