No its not true. Although the song's lyrics are interpreted by some as being a hymn to the Virgin Mary, the song was written as a tribute by McCartney after he had a dream about his mother, Mary, who died when he was fourteen. [

Did he dedicate this song to anyone, though? I believe it was a song he wrote in his drug phase in the late 60s, about getting high and and having visions of his dead mother, Mary McCartney, who died when he was a young boy.

It was dedicated to his wife, Heather Mills-McCartney, when a guy in the street knocked her to the ground and stole her her prosthetic leg. She lay in the gutter shouting "bring back my leg you sick b*stard", but as she only had one leg she couldn't stand up and was scuppered. Sir Paul McCartney, always the gent, stepped in to offer assistance in her hour of need, but was unable to catch the culprit as he was quite old and couldn't run very fast. Instead he took his wife by the hand, looked into her eyes and said "let it be"

Its for his mother, which her name was Mary. She always used to say to him Let it Be. Like let it go when something is bothering you. Thats why he says Speaking words of Wisdom. He really respected her and still is taking those words to heart. Even with everything thats happened in his life

Oh c'mon. Surely you don't believe that. Anyhow, love the song, but I didn't know he dedicated it to anyone - if he did, it would have been to his lovely wife Linda.

I thought it had something to do with John Winston Lennon.
Addendum: I thought I was right, but it seems I was wrong. Looks like it WAS about his mother. Ya learn something every day!
