Why are kids generally so into drawing? Do brilliant artists possess brilliant imaginations from the get-go?

My 12 yr old daughter answered these three in the early morning: 1. They were all children too and some times you have a little fun when your an artist. 2. Because they love to make all theses different lines and put them together into great art. and its a fun way to express yourself. 3. Yes because they love to draw so they use their imagination in a very creative way.

What they have in common are parents. And curiosity, and imagination, and a keen desire to represent (express) themselves. Watch a toddler long enough and you will see how much he imitates the world around him. From a smile to a cuss word, we human learn by imitation, sublimation and interpretation. There are many brilliant artists who never make it as artists...but every artist has the child-like ability to imitate, sublimate and interpret.

I don't know but I have custody of my 9yr old nephew and he draws all the time very violent pictures of men with knives dripping blood and monsters, I told him people can make money as an artist and he is really into it now! I think the violent pictures come from suppressed anger toward his parents(or thats what the psychiatrist says), he says he likes monsters and scary movies and that its all make believe.

Great artists? Like painters and writers, I suppose.

Some have found a common thread with "near death experiences" it's pretty amazing.
