i was like stunned, even though i didnt watch his show a lot, still, he was like one of the most popular people out there. i find it so,so sad that his poor wife and his poor 8 year old daughter and his poor 2 year old son are now without out a husband and a father. and to make it even worse someone else is joking about it!

Of course it was tragic! It was a freak accident. Think about it: What are the odds that the sting ray's barb, which usually doesn't kill people, goes up his rib cage and pierces the famous TV star's heart, and he apparently did nothing to provoke the sting ray. Not any of the other people with Steve Irwin, either, but him. Fate, anyone?
Because of that accident, we've lost a great person that did so much for animals and the environment.

I'm still in shock. he was an ispiration to me and many many other people. he really made concervation interesting and fun. It's unfortunate that he died but one good thing is he died doing something he loved if there is a good thing about someone dieing.
it is unfortunate that his gut instinct was to pull the barb out because he may have made it at least increased his chance of survival a little bit. and from what they were saying after looking over the video of it, he wasn't doing anything to pervoke the sting ray. that was the real sad part.
he has touched many people and his legacy will go on. he has done so much for wildlife and educating people about wild life.

Yes it was tragic. Not just from the perspective of a family being left without a father/husband or that someone in their early 40s is too young too die, but also because he was a huge advocate for animal wellfare. He travelled all around the world rescuing neglected animals from tiny enclosures. He had such a zest for life too, a real passion for it so this also is sad. But, it was an accident waiting to happen, you can't expect to place yourself in danger over and over again. Eventually the odds will catch up to you. I am sure he knew this and carried on his love of his 'job' in spite of this.

Hi,
Yup i think so too. Lots of people are shocked including me. At least he died doing what he loved best. He never did seem like the person to just curl up in front of a fire?
At the risk of sounding boring and grim i have to add that there is one thing we are all gaurenteed in life and that is to die! Wow...happy little soul hey?
We have also have got to remember that just because they are celebrities doesnt make us any less or them any better as deep down we all laugh, cry and yes...go to the lav! No matter if some talk with a plum in their mouth or an orange! Ummm? That's got me thinking??
Hope he rests in peace in a crock heaven. x

I lost my father in tragic accident when I was just three. He was doing his job, which happened to be extremely dangerous....but it was what he was. Steve Irwin's death was a sad reminder that life is precious and can be lost in the blink of an eye. I especially feel for his children who, while proud of their father, will be haunted by his absence for the rest of their lives....

Yes it is a sad day when ever someone who touches our lives dies. However he was aware of the dangers in swimming with the rays. The lives of his children will be great they have a strong mother who I believe will raise those children to respect and continue their fathers work with animals. He will be missed by all his fans, more by his friends, and even more so by friends and loved ones. This is very sad.

I find it weirdly apropos, that he should get killed in such a strange way.
First off stingrays usually don't kill people, and second off the fact that it pierced under his rib cage and through his heart.
I wonder if word has spread through the animal kingdom and if they are happy or sad that he won't be around to drive them crazy any more.

Very sad. Seeing how much he loved his children and his entire family,,(from all the tv coverage last night) it is very sad those children will reach all their milestones without their Daddy cheering them on. (He will be from Above!!). So sad and heartbreaking. Our family's Prayers are with them.
