Yes it was sad. Not just from the perspective of a family being left without a father/husband or that someone in their early 40s is too young too die, but also because he was a huge advocate for animal wellfare. He travelled all around the world rescuing neglected animals from tiny enclosures. He had such a zest for life too, a real passion for it so this also is sad. But, it was an accident waiting to happen, you can't expect to place yourself in danger over and over again. Eventually the odds will catch up to you. I am sure he knew this and carried on his love of his 'job' in spite of this.

When I consider all the times I have petted sting-rays and seen other people do so. Its Ironic that a person who made a living wrestling alligators and poisonous snakes got killed by a little sting-ray. Its comparable to one of Siegfried and Roy being killed by a house cat.
