you have many muscles in your eyes and they can rotate your eye -ball = up / down/ left / and right .
you are only really conscious of this
when you are asked,to look in specific directions , (opticians)
without moving your head .
Mostly you can watch what is around you
without realising you are moving your eyes .
your peripheral vision ( corner of the eye)
is limited
but you can detect movement ,
which may make you ,turn your head for a better look
at what is there .

Your eyelid has two corners as your "eye" is almond shaped.
Your eyeball is round and held in place behind the eyelid by fluid and tendons.
Also just a bit of trivia - your eyes stay the same size from birth.

The simple answer is that you cannot - there is no corner, and seeing 'out of the corner of your eye' is just a saying. However, what you are referring to is known as peripheral vision. The 'periphery' of something is 'around its edges'. Hence from the multitude of images picked up by the eye, you see things 'in the corner'.

cut n paste from link, good diagrams here too that will expalin.
It is because of the differences in our eyes between the two types of light receptors in our eyes called rods and cones and where they are.
Rods, which can only detect differences between light and dark, are much more sensitive to light than the cones, which detect colour. When you look directly at something light from that object falls on an area predominately made up of the less sensitive cones. If you look slightly to one side of something faint, it can be seen much better because the light from the object falls on areas of the retina that have many more rods
at the back of eye there is a layer called the retina and in the middle of this is a small area called the Fovea Centralis. Effectively this area is where light will strike if you are looking directly ahead. Any light coming from anything you do not look at directly or is seen out of the corner of your eye will fall on to the retina either side of the Forvea

it's a use of language because there is an inadequate term for a point on the periphery/circumference of a spherical object. "corner" is used more frequently and is easier understood by human beings, since in vision or circles picking a specific point and haivng it immediately understood where it is has problems. Finally though our vision is quite wide things such as ceilings and floors and blocky structures makes us easily understand our vision have limits and corners.
Certainylu didn't think i could give such a long answer to a simple play-on-words question filler :)

It's not the 'corner' of your eye that you see from. It's called peripheral vision and is the result of lower density of light receiving cells on the outer edges of the reitna. Also beyond this are different types of receptor cells which are poor at detecting colour but great for night vision. This means you can 'see' things which you're not directly looking at but you may need to focus your gaze on them to work out their details.

I'd be less worried about how you can see something 'out the corner of your eye' and more worried about someone seeing what you are doing from the eye in the back of their head!

The retina (back of the eyeball) is also round. This is the part that catches the light and gives you your vision.

because although the eyes are round, there is a concave lens which gives the eye a V shaped vision - thus you can see from the corner
