Yes and no.

I have lived with a man who was ADHD. There was definitely something wrong with him, but I feel that they diagnosed him wrong, and put him on the wrong meds. He committed suicide while taking all "the right" medication.

My daughter is also ADD, but I refuse to put her on any meds. She acts exactly like I use to, and I did very well with out any meds, and am so glad my parents didn't go that way. Of course, it pisses the school system off, but that is too bad!

I know way too many children who are supposed to be ADHD, and are on medication for it, but a few frank conversations with their parents and you find out that the kids eat high sugar, high caffeine diets, and don't get enough sleep! I listen to these parents complain about the effects of the drugs, but when I suggest sleeping and diet changes, well that is too hard.

I KNOW there are children who are really ADHD, but I also feel that there are many that are misdiagnosed, and that meds should be the very last resort, not given out like candy. If the problems can be controlled without the drugs, it is better for them.

Working with kids and adults with this disorder would certainly make me believe in this although its interesting that you didnt hear to much about this disorder 30 years ago. With this said, thirty years ago women were more likely to stay at home and raise their children. ADHD and Bipolar I Disorder are commonly interchanged and confused. The lady who wrote in about her boyfriend may have actually had Bipolar Disorder with a baseline depression

NO...it's just a poor excuse to act like a fool.
When I was a kid, the cure for it wasn't medications, it was a switch off the bushes across your backside.

yes, but i think that we overly diagnose them and that some people are just a little different than others but that doesn't mean they have a disorder.
