Right now there are 2,271 satellites in orbit around the Earth. Russia has the most satellites in orbit (1,324 satellites), followed by the U.S. with 658 satellites.

There are hundreds of them orbiting earth. You can try checking with NASA or BSNC for a round number but there are so many agencies (including the UN) that monitor satellite activity that it's hard to put together a list. But some are for weather, communications, military and research purposes. The average lifespan of a satellite is 10-15 years before they have to be replaced.

there is around 4000 of them in orbit
they use them for things like taken pics for google earth
or using them for peoples sat nav

oh and rustskipper that was a page from 1997 there is about 500 of them lauched a month

Depends on what you count as a satellite.

If you include all the junk that's been dumped up there as well as all the communications, military and scientific ones - not to mention the moon - there would be an immense number.

Technically a satellite is like our moon, the metal ships that beam signals to our homes and all the rest, are "artificial satellites".

So depending on who you believe the earth has one satellite, or five. Yes that's right, the Earth has five moons (in theory)

More than You count and keep on increasing almost daily. Space is becomming a junkyard of satellites

There are currently more than 100,000 orbitting the earth at this time.....some reckon in the region of 180,000......
