you would be in an alternate universe. and if you went beyond that you would eventually run into a parallell universe.

The universe has no edge. Think of the universe as the surface of a balloon that is ever expanding. You are very flat and can only travel on the surface of that balloon. You can walk forever on the surface of that balloon and never come to its "edge". This is how it its in two dimensions. In the three dimensional universe, it may be harder for the mind to visualize, but the concept is the same. The universe may be finite, but it has no 'end' or 'edge' to get to.

The universe is ever expanding, but it is also flat. This has been proven. All the matter and energy in it (5% normal matter and energy, 35% dark matter, and 60% dark energy) have flattened it out. So if you went beyond the edge of the universe, you would be in the void that the universe originally came out of. You would be in nothingness.

It is impossible to travel beyond space because all travel currently known occurs in or through space. More than just a fish out of water there is nothing to move through, no means of propulsion. And it is expanding, so if we were in that edge we probably wouldn't known that space was expanding because we would be in it, relativity states that under constant non accelerated motion there is an equally valdi claim of being at rest ie: you wouldn't know you were moving.

I suppose you would stop if you went through the edge and beyond because there is aBsouloutly nothing there.. But it would ne impossible to get there as the universe is traveling incredible fast.

Theoretically, there could be a finite number of planets and stars and you could reach a point in space where there are no more of them in the direction that you are heading. What would exist then would be space with all of its cosmic dust. (particles, atoms, photons, neutrons, electrons, anti-matter, etc.) Further travel would be hard without points of reference and you might want to be careful that the stars and planets don't leave you in their dust as they move on.
Of course, if you are capable of this type of travel, it would seem like no time at all when another star would be created from the dust to keep you company.

It's really hard to say,
People keep saying the universe is expanding, but what was there before it expanded ;-)
Its all so confusing

There is no edge.
There is no beyond either; to talk about 'beyond' implies there is space, which there is not space-time is a property of the Universe, and it is meaningless to talk about it beyond the universe.

Good question. Really boggles our minute minds when we think about dimensions outside of the ones that we know with our limited senses. I sometimes like to think about these types of questions just to remind myself of how small we (and our problems) really are.
