Whiteheads are called that because of the puss that gathers at the tip of a pimple. Puss is white or a dull cream color. Puss must be removed by pulling apart the skin at the side of the pimple. DO NOT squeeze the puss out. That could cause infection as the puss goes inward instead of coming out.

Both whiteheads and blackheads are grease and other stuff trapped in the pores. The only difference is that blackheads have oxidised oil (sebum) in them, turning part of it black; the pores are closed before this can happen, with whiteheads.
