One possible way could be keeping track of the things you do or want to accomplish. By listing the things you want to do in a certain day, you can check everytime if you missed something or if you left something undone. Your listing (an agenda even) can also serve as your diary like, for example, you can easily check what have you been working on or doing during a certain date. You'll just have to dedicate a certain schedule when you want to list the things you want to do. How do you do them? Try the following:

1) sit and start writing down the things you want to accomplish;
2) on each task, write beside it how would you like them done;
3) schedule a time of completion for each task;
4) start deciding when you should commence the first task.

Well, you can definitely imagine a better way ;-)

Good luck!

I myself is pretty disorganized... but i have noticed that when I do the things 'right then', it really helps. When I come back from school, the dress goes in the cupboard, not on the bed, the books go to the table upstairs and not on the sofa, 'right then'. This takes away the pressure off me of having to do the job twice. And as the others have pointed out, prevents a pile up.

I also do something else. Another reason I'm disorganized is because I 'forget' the things I need to do. I spend many hours lazing about without ever realizing I have so many pending jobs. So, whenever a job needs to be done (that I cannot do right away), I list it. This way, I know nothing will be forgotten. Over time, I put a huge check mark beside the job that I just completed. At the end of the day, boy, its a pleasure to see a fully checked list!

The best way is mind set.
If you mind is not set for anything, whatever method you will not accomplish.

If you set for organized, there is no need to have a method. Methods will just come ! Perhaps you need some motivation about staying organized.

It's a pretty broad question.

I am in the Military so Organizations is a must and activity is a constant.

Unable to watch TV for mor than a few hours I busy myself with home improvement, yard care, engineering my network =) and other things. This winter I will be busy cutting dead trees out of the surrounding wooded area of my house.

There is always something to do, you only have to get motivated and do it.

Personally it depeds on exactly what you are talking about but an answer which in my opinion is a good start is to set goals both short term and long term ones. By having goals it gives us direction. Make yourself some action plans with date markers to establish and accomplish your goals. Make sure your goals are realistic and obtainable.

my girlfriend has this problem as well....as far as i can tell, putting things of, because they are insignificant is the main problem....2 dishes turn into 10, which turn in to 20....by the time you "notice" the dishes, you've got something else to do and never get around to it. One article of clothing on the floor turns to 5, which turns in to 10....before you know it, the house is a mess and, well, you've got to go to work, so............

I think it our ability to work with our mind that makes all the difference. Our mind has a mind of its own, and so does our heart. If we have a good working knowledge about our own system than we can have a better control upon our life. We can increase our efficiency. There are many things in life that can be made better by learning to operate our mind better and by using our emotional energy to our accompany our will.

There are books available on this topic and there are many things that can be said. But I will mention here just one thing that I find has worked for me. You see, our mind identifies patterns, it gets strong if we do things habitually, or periodically. If we keep our mind focused it rouses amazing strengths within.

For this purpose you need to develop mental models for your action. Each model should be like a machine with its own regulatory mechanism, with its own cycles of reassessment and revaluation. It should be highly defined so that our mind finds it easy to recognise it in the moments of choice. Once mind is familiar with a model it is amazingly easy for us to stay focused and purposeful.

One time resolves on the other hand is vulnerable to ongoing sequences of unexpected events. We make a resolve that we will do this, but the next moment that resolve might not have that much will power available, we might find ourselves emotional involved in doing something opposite. We need to develop our resolves into working models. A resolves is merely a thoughts an idea it can be broken it not supported or developed.

For example, you want to control your spending. Normally you do not understand how fast you end up spending money. It is a powerful habit and there are incentives to spend all around. Then you will need to plan for it and develop a programme to curb your spending habit. You can allocate yourself a daily budget first of all. If you spend less than put this money aside for you to but things of necessity that are at any day over the limit of you daily allowance. And if you find yourself needing to spend more that your daily limit the solution is – don't! You learn to exert you will power strongly but you r mind now know how to do this without causing stress. And if you somehow do spend beyond the limit that you have agreed upon in your mind. Then stick to the programme next day and try to save some money in order to compensate for the over spending of the previous day.

The part of human mind that is related with organisation aspects of life detests uncertainty. But it grows stronger with certainties earned through routines. A focused mind is thousand times stronger than a mind that is in lateral state of thoughts. Even if you have a very rudimentary mind models, you will realise that soon as mind identifies it it starts giving you suggestion to improve on it, and by practice you can get better with you mind on it. You will realise that you enjoy refining your programmes and working with your mind. And you will also realise that you are learning to drive your mind like a powerful machine. This can make you very empowered person in practical life. Good luck!
