I am going to buy a dvd drive for my dell computer. I was wondering, most of the drives that i have seen are called dvd burners, that still mean that they will read and actually play dvds right?

They will read and play DVD's. They will also burn DVD's so you can make copies and play them in your TV's DVD player.

dvd burners will both read and write cds and dvds, but you will likely lose a little speed with cds, because almost all dvd burners currently have a max cd speed of 48X compared to 52X for a cd drive.

Yes but make sure you purchase a unit that covers the dozen or so burning formats! Some of the cheaper units wont! This will assure that you can burn anything to play on anything!
