My point is common sense will tell you if you live around the coast, one of these days you will be affected by a major hurricane. Instead of these people whining about it, why don't they just pack up their belongings and move farther inland where they won't get affected as bad as places along the coast?

Actually, your question confuses me. Should we go to California to the earthquakes? Maybe we can move to the northeast and have blizzards? There is also the midwest with tornadoes....do you see my point yet? Yeah hurricanes come, yeah we prepare, yeah we evacuate (Mississippi), yeah we expect some assistance when we come home...know why? WE PAY TAXES TOO! My parents and I both worked at casinos. They opened a YEAR later...AUGUST 29, 2006 is when the Beau Rivage REOPENED.

We don't want to move our belongings and move inland. Just like I dont expect people in those other areas to move...we're part of the UNITED STATES too ya know! We have just as much right to help as anyone else would! I realize New Orleans has done nothing to help itself...but I extend an invitation for you to come to south Mississippi and see what it was like just after Katrina and NOW...you can even see pictures of BEFORE the storm. MILES and MILES of NOTHING...where buildings of businesses and homes once stood. People live in their FEMA trailers with their 5 member families...trust me...those trailers don't FIT five!

So I thank God for the people who were nice enough to come to our aid...and for the others who complain about it...come to Mississippi....you don't know...you just don't know.

Yeah, its funny how no one feels sorry for Katrina survivors...I've seen so many questions on here directed towards them about how they need to pick up and move on. Well, what about those who don't have any sympathy for 9/11 survivors? Would you overly patriotic Americans appreciate comments such as those? I wasn't directly affected by 9/11, I knew no one in that catastrophe so I couldn't be but so upset. But I still felt bad and to hear those 911 tapes is really sad. I think no one cares about Katrina survivors a year later because the news depicted them as a bunch of poor 9th Ward living blacks who were indulging in all types of filth, violence and immoral lifestyles that they deserved to be swept away in a storm with all of their worldly belongings and the ones who did survive were just trying to milk the government out of any type of help that they could. Why are people still making a big deal about 9/11 five years later and making movies about it but people are tired of hearing about Katrina already? Sounds strange to me...

Although I'm a little tired of hearing about Katrina, I also didn't experience it. I'm also not poor and without a vehicle if I needed to escape a hurricane. I try to keep these things in mind when I'm changing the channel because last week was a journalist's wet dream. Talk show hosts had a hay day with it too. (The anniversary specials)

Tell her phooty41!

And furthermore, people have to live somewhere. These people who were affected by Hurricane Katrina, most of them have lived there all of their lives! That's like saying why don't people move from out of the mountains where most brush fires occur or people should move out of California where earthquakes occur or people should move from Texas, Arizona, Florida because that's where the majority of people die from heat strokes. Common sense a lot of times have nothing to do with where people can afford to live or where their roots are. Yes a lot of people lost their lives but sometimes mother nature hits and it out of human beings control. I don't know where you live but I sure hope you never feel a disaster say such as a comet falling out of the sky at warp speed, not giving you and your neighbors enough time to get out and be safe. Sh*t happens and a lot of times there is just nothing you can do about it but put it into prayer.

it is hard to have sympathy. Those people were told to get out of town, and they stayed ! Not to smart....Make sure your insurance policy is payed up and Go.

I know many people who have gone to the Gulf Coast since Katrina, on EMS missions. It is a shame that all the death and destruction happened. But most of the death could have been avoided

I flooded, my house was over 30+ years old and has never flooded before, for someone to tell me that i should leave my hometown and mover further inland is ludicrous.

I sympathize with all people in need its the American way.

why dont you people who think its so easy to get up and leave ever see the WHOLE situation--not just the part YOU think is so easy or "common sense"??..what about the people who were born there and lived their whole life there? have roots and businesses down there?? anyone who lives a life knows how hard it is to keep it together-especially when a hurricant tears it all apart and there is not enough help to get you back on your feet---and when you love your home and it gets ripped from you.........how about stop thinking like politicians and start thinking like human beings!

I, personally, am glad my family stayed. I would have hated going up north and not knowing anything about Mississippi, only New Orleans.
