Im Sooooooooo Scared!

I remember, as an eighteen year old, walking outside of my hall of residence (which was in fact on the campus) in a strange city, on the afternoon after my Father had dropped me off and thinking "If I got run over now, on this road, nobody would know who I am, or where to return me, or anything". It was one of those surreal moments of simultaneous fear and freedom.

I spent the first week of term so anxious that I kept having nose bleeds. I was absolutely terrified. However, by the time the first term was up, twelve weeks later, I didn't want to leave the campus and return to my family. I had changed as a person sufficiently to realise that I had made the right decision to embark upon studying a course that was to provide me with employment for much of the following decade.

So, to quote a book title, feel the fear and do it anyway. (Susan Jeffers wrote it I believe in case you were wondering).

I was terrified and if I'm honest, I hated it for the first couple of weeks. However, I soon settled in and had the most amount of fun over those 3 years.

It is a daunting experience and it's hard leaving your family and friends and having to do everything for yourself.

However, when I look back on my uni days, I know that I learnt a lot about life and made some of the best friends ever.

Another thing to consider is that everyone is in the same boat as you so you're bound to find other people freaking out so don't worry.

And if the worst comes to the worst? Just leave. You don't have to stay.

I'm sure you'll love it once you get there. I would love to be in your position just starting that lifestyle again.

Have fun! xx

I felt the same way, but it was brilliant and exciting. There's lots of help and guidance available if you need it. The first couple of weeks are so busy, time flies. If I could give you one piece of advice, I would say don't cling to the first set of people you meet. Try to make as many friends as possible in different ways - some from your accommodation, some from your course and some from sports/clubs etc. The more, the merrier. You'll have a great time. Good luck to you!

It's great. It's like living in a new town. No need to be scared. You'll soon be so engrossed in study you won't have time to think about much else. It's not really the same as going to school because you are among adults and you are treated as an adult by the faculty. You make some fabulous friends too.

Absolutely legendary.
Although my 1st year I nearly quit because of the people in my flat, but then moved into new halls for my 2nd year and had the time of my life. 3rd and 4th were equally amazing.

You meet the most awesome people you could imagine, you'll have some oddball nights out, some weird drunken experiences, your studies will be consuming but you shouldn't be scared!

be anxious though, it's a new stage in your life, embrace it.

and good luck :-)
