Microscopes allowes theories to be proved or disproved. Once something becomes fact it allows you to expand on the your theory. And if it proves a theory wrong you have to change the way you think to find the answer. Either way your it will give you something new to think about hence your ideas have changed.

Once upon a time we thought that minerals were just made out of combinations of elemental forces. We thought illnesses were caused by imbalances in "four humors" and breathing in bad air. We thought that because we couldn't see it, nothing was there.

Microscopes changed all that. They allowed mankind to see beyond normal vision and view the tiny constituent elements of so much of the world; we could see bacteria in water where before it had seemed clean and harmless, for instance. Faced with such evidence, thinking was forced to change and thus our knowledge advanced.

Just as telescopes have allowed us to see things far away and to "prove" if an idea is true or false. Proof can change or establish ideas depending on whether it was true
