He was stung by a stingray while doing a documentary. He was stung in the chest and it pierced his heart. R.I.P Steve Irwin 'croc hunter' Sleep with the angels. x

Well according to the news, he was diving and got too close to a giant sting ray and the ray stuck him in the chest with the stinger and it penetrated his heart. He was doing what he loved the best.

Irwin was at Batt Reef, off the remote coast of northeastern Queensland state, shooting a segment for a series called "Ocean's Deadliest" when he swam too close to one of the animals, which have a poisonous barb on their tails, his friend and colleague John Stainton said.
"He came on top of the stingray and the stingray's barb went up and into his chest and put a hole into his heart," said Stainton, who was on board Irwin's boat at the time.

Yes, he got stung right in the heart. It is a great loss, but he died the way he lived...dangerously. Heartbreaking that he left a young wife and two small children.

he was fiming a documentary and was pierced in the heart by a stingrays barb [the sting on the end of the tail] really sad

he was shooting a "Creatures of the Deep" film and while he was in the water he got to close to a sting ray and the sting rays barb shot him in the chest and pierced a hole in his heart.

From what i heard a sting rays barb went through his chest and he went into cardiac arrest...

yeah, he was filming a show for his daughter about the oceans creatures and was taking a few pictures and a sting ray punctured his heart
