How do I get Vital Statistic Records for my deceased mom in Indiana?

My mom passed away and in an attempt to file a claim for benefits I need birth and marriage certificates. I have her death certificate and I was told that her Vital Statistics would cover the rest. I was told to go to the courthouse but they sent me to a health dept. The health dept sent me to the clerk or court. And so and and so forth. Can anyone tell me who I need to contact or where I need to go to obtain these records. Another concern is the fact that she was not born or married in Indiana. I don't know if that will be a problem. I am hoping I don't have to go out of state for these records.

To get copies of the papers you need you need to contact the states that she was born and married in. There is usually a central registry for such things in each state. There is a small fee involved in getting each of these documents--usually no more than $20 and it can take up to 14 business days to get them after they have received your payment. You will have to send a written request for the information--sorry, phone and email requests won't be answered. You'll have to give some basic information about your mother--full name, parents names, birth date, maiden name, husbands name, date of marriage, etc. for these items and some sort of proof of who you are (they want to make sure you are really related--can't just give these things out to anyone) and a reason for needing the copies. You should also contact your mother's attorney--he should have copies of these documents already! Things like these your parents should have kept in a safety deposit box or safe--just so they would be available when they or you needed them!

Just stay with the bureaucrats you've already contacted, be firm and be repetitive on what you need. There's no excuse for any part of our government hiring people who don't know what they're doing, but you won't get anywhere telling them so.
