No, we're always going to be able to find something to fight about. The most destructive war of all time (WW2) was fought over ideology (Communism v. Fascism v. Democracy), but Japan also fought to extend it's sphere of influence (ultimately hoping to gain hegemony over all asia and the Pacific Rim), Germany and Japan fought for living space.

Other minor European powers (eg Hungary, Romania etc) fought as a continuation of other ancient grievances (mostly related to small bits of territory to which they believed they were traditionally entitled).

Rebels within some of the Allied countries (usually colonies of the Big Powers like the UK) eg India, Iraq etc fought to throw off their colonial masters.

War can also be over resources. I'm sure we're all aware that many people think the only reason the Western Powers are involved in the Middle East is because of the oil, and many people are now realising that water will become a similarly fought for resource as the world's population grows and climate change depletes it.

No, even if religion was eradicated tomorrow, we'd still find plenty of reasons to fight. All animals fight to a degree, including humans.

Law and custom can deal with every artificial reason for conflict. Religion is artificial: it consists of ideas acquired from other people, and those ideas can be revised or discarded, if the religion adherant so chooses.

Class is more than a matter of belief, but it is less than an immutable law of nature. By hard work and perseverence, and with the talent to make someone worthy, class lines can usually be crossed. An example from popular fiction is Horatio Hornblower (C.S. Lewis).

If a reason for difference really is cultural, then any social problems pertaining to it may have cultural remedies. Otherwise, not. That is, if a difference between people is something that people are born with, about which they can do nothing, then there is no cultural or social fix to the problem, and the only possible remedy is to isolate people into their own groups so that the differences don't cause problems.

That's really what you should look for when you see that human differences are causing problems. Is the source of the problem really cultural? Or is it something acquired hereditarily, instead?

Look at chimpanzees in the wild. Like us, chimps are very tribal. They've been known to fight mini-wars, tribe against tribe, with nearly all of the human repertoire of war-crimes, including torture, hostage-taking, baby killing, resource appropriation, subjugation, and genocide. These fights aren't cultural: they occur whenever competing groups of chimpanzee meet, and they are caused by a hereditary imperative, not by any sort of indoctrinated hatred.

Like them, we are primates, and we have much of the same genetic coding. We group ourselves naturally into our proper assortments, chiefly by race, and every "racial problem" common to humans are caused by the current foolish political fashion of forcing different races to live together. As long as that continues, so will racial violence, racial hatred... and the jingoism by which liberals try in futility to alleviate the trouble.

removing religion from the equation would only remove the mask of conquest and demanding tribute/protection payments.

Economics, bigotry and a lot of other issues cause conflicts over property, right of way, etc.

It would be nice if it was that simple to solve the conflicts of the world, and it is true that some religions by pushing their dogma to incite followers to a cause. Ending religion would not stop all conflicts.

Not really true because some people will always cause problems from every group of people. But many of the religious organizations cause problems. They are supposed to be seperate from the governments, but yet they bless soldiers of certain factions praising their killings of So called enemies who may have the same religious background. Catholics killing Catholics, Protestansts Killing Protestants, Jews killing Jews, Muslims Killing Muslims,..........etc It seems hypocritical and very un-united, Religion backs alot of the political movements. They water down the message of the Bible to please their listeners, and "okay" things that are wrong. They incorporate non-Biblical teachings into their sermons and doctrines, and present them as teachings found in the Bible. If people really Followed what the Bible actually teaches and studied it in depth they would see that most religions are hypocrtical and they do not follow the Bibles example.

No because many people use religion as a guideline for right and wrong. I think if we stopped persecuting those of DIFFERENT religions, we would be a lot better off, but removing religion could cause more problems. Unless your religions definition of right involves the destruction of others, but to me that would fall under persecution in a vague way.

Conflict will arise for many other reasons apart from religion.
Religion is one of the major reasons for conflict, but not the only one.

I strongly disagree- As long as there are class systems, political structures and natural resources to fight about, then we will still have conflict and war.

Not true.

Religion is one of several smokescreens used by those with power to take the belongings, land, resources of others.

To eliminate war, you have to eliminate greed and envy. As long as there are those who would rather take than make, there will be wars.
