I am currently working as a waitress,and am looking to go back to school for my associates degree. I really want to live in Boston.I'm sure not everyone who has kids in the city has a college degree so how do they afford it?

They live in places that their family has owned for years and don't have huge mortgages or sky high rent to pay. Or they have jobs that pay very well without a college degree. Or they share housing with other moms in the same situation.

they live in the projects or places where the rent goes according to your income.
