By their actions. Are their actions consistent with what they tell you? Sometimes the little things they tell you can be proven by the actions that follow. For example, if they tell you they will meet you at a certain time, but they turn up much later. Too many of these actions will prove they are not sincere people.

When people are being nice, I always try to believe that they are being sincere.....even if they use somewhat of a fake tone and smile....I still try to believe they are being sincere, because really they might be having a bad day or bad hour, and just trying to put on a happy face. So FIRST always try to look for the good in people, and if they burn you....then you know to keep your distance. But always be safe and trust your intuition, especially when a complete stranger is involved.....Sometimes sick dangerous people prey on people who are nice and non-judgmental.

From their eyes is my number one answer. Eyes tell everything, from lies, truth, love to hatred. You can also know if someone is being sincere to you by the way they help you. Do they offer their help without having you to ask for it? Do they smile when helping you? Do they ask for something in return? Do they look at you in a way that you know they are sincere? Do they do their best when helping you? If yes, maybe it is sincere.

There is no way of knowing for sure, about all you can do is know the person you are talking to well enough that you can make a judgment call as to whether or not they are being honest with you. Unfortunately we can't read minds so it's basically a trust issue. GL
