I ripped CDs straight to PenDrive (in MP3 format) and it seems that a 1GB Pendrive can hold about 14 Audio CDs (14 Albuns). It is only my experience.

Size of MP3 files isn't all the same. Depends on how many seconds the music is and even the musical style can make difference (more instruments, more complexity, more bytes). But in average, 250 MP3 files in 1GB is a good estimated value.

The 1GB holds about 560-565, and the 512 MB right about 280-290.
Hope this helps :)

I have a 1g and it can hold about 560 songs and 512 can hold half of that.

It's variable. It mostly comes down to how many bits are being used on the majority of the songs. If you want to fit more songs, go with a lower bit rate (96kbps) and if you want less songs, but higher quality, go with higher bit rate (192kbps).
