If you do, what do you write? I write short stories and poetry and want to write novels in the future, do it in uni too, but sometimes I just get annoyed that it's pointless and going no where.

I write. I write poetry, short stories, novellettes, novellas, novels, creative nonfiction essays. If you write, there is really no way it could be pointless. Writing takes practice and dedication if you want to see it go somewhere. If you are currently trying to get some of your short stories published, that's fantastic. Look for contests to enter, especially contests centered around your age group of you're in high school. Once you get to University, pay attention to your English Department. They are always holding contests and competitions, or they will announce outside competitions they support. Start there, and don't give up. Don't let rejection discourage you. Trust me, it happens to the best of writers, authors like Stephen King, Anne Rice, etc. etc. If you're speaking of pointless as in the quality of your work not improving, that takes YEARS!! If it is something you truly love and feel passionate about, give it time and space to grow. If it's just a hobby, enjoy it while you fancy it. It is a gift to have power over words and their creation. Good luck with yours.

I have been writing for years. I write alot of fillers and articles and have started on a couple of books. I have often felt that it is all pointless yet I never actually give up the writing. It is in getting my writing published that throws me off.

I understand the concept of getting a book published, but I have so many articles and fillers that are just lying around with no life of their own anymore. I am not afraid of rejection, I'm afraid that I won't contact the right person or the right venue in which to get my submission published. My brain totally freezes when it comes time to send something out. I have no idea who to send it to. That is when I feel that all of the writing I have done is pointless.

I enjoyed reading the encouraging words from all the answers given to your question. I appreciate you asking this question because I feel the same way all too often. Like you, I also want to write on mulitple levels at the same time and get them all published. I want to make writing my life (outside of my children) and my career.

It's never pointless, even if you are only writing for yourself. If it were pointless you would not have begun writing in the first place. If it were pointless, we would not have multiple genres of books to choose from in which to read. Keep at it. Don't fret, sometimes the opportunity comes to you when you least expect it. But don't give up trying to find your own outlet source.

I've tried to write some stuff novels about different subjects, but I'm too much of a procastrinator to get something really good done. I'm also interested in fan fiction, and I have to say that it is a great way to start to develop writting skills.

Never give up on writing. It's never pointless. Try to enter competitions...submit your work.

If you like challenges , try www.nanowrimo.org -- every November, people from around the world try to get a novel written. Give it a shot...I'm participating again, and hopefully this year I can get the challenge done !

i do. Writing is a passion of mine. I write poetry. I love writing short stories and one day hope to get a novel published. Ive been attending an online writing school. WINGHILL.COM. Its been going ok, but i dont' think i realized how hard it is to go to school online and still do everything in life you have to do. I have those feelings too where i get annoyed and feel like its not going anywhere. Hang in there. If you are passionate about it, one day your dreams will come true,.

I love to write, particularly poetry. However, I have created a plot for a fantasy novel, and am working on creating a world for it. I'm really excited, because this could actually turn out to be a series of books.

For me, just the act of writing is worth it. It's something that allows me to express myself and to work through emotions. I do, however, also submit my poetry to magazines for publication. So my writing is sort of "going somewhere". You should check out the newest edition of Writer's Market (your local library should have it). It's a huge reference of places to submit your writing to.

Also, have you read the book Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg? Whenever I start feeling like writing is pointless, that book really makes me remember why I do it, as well as giving me great prompts and techniques to use!

Bird By Bird by Anne Lamott is another favorite of mine, and could be a great read for you if you're planning on writing a novel.

If it makes you happy, it's never pointless! Maybe it won't end up being what you do for a career, but nobody ever said that hobbies and passions have to make you rich and famous. Write because YOU enjoy it!

I love writing. I am working on my first book at the moment, and for practice, I write fanfiction. Some people think it is pointless, and rather sad, but I love it, and it helps me to develop a good style, and to see if people like the way I write.

Another comment made stated that it can be lonely, boring and frustrating, and he is right! But he is also right that it can be fantastic, enjoyable and very rewarding. All writers go through phases of writer's block, I have experienced it myself, but it will come when it is meant to.

i write stories.. mostly romance.. and i write poetry. I started on a novel but it's not quite done. I get what you saying, i've been writting since about 10 yrs. old and my novel is a romance nove. i've done so many changes because the mind of a 10 yr. old girl and the mind of a 17 yr. old girl is totally different. But be patient, inspiration will come.

I do. I write to express myself, to open my soul, to ease the pain, to feel better. Don't share my writings with lots of people. I think that writing a novel in the future would be a challenge, too. I usually don't think it is annoying, I myself am just too lazy.

pay attention to a crap load of music. using fact the guitar is obviously very simular to a piano, i detect listening to many classical products, speradically places some thing into my head. another element, I often start up out playing a riff incredibly sluggish. i'm talking like 15 to twenty BPM. this provides me a precise sense for what i'm playing from the start, with the flexibility to get rid of lost notes, or perhaps an entire scale. Then whilst escalading the pace greater issues come to mild. So in my obscure technique the start to a riff could desire to be the comparable or finished oposite from the unique while 20 BPM turns into 200 BPM
