Realize that you are an educator and to be an educator you must see your audience as students who are eager to learn what you have to say (though their body language may not represent this).

What others have said about being prepared is the most important aspect of being confident. Having note cards or a one-with the outline or one page outline that can sit in front of you on a podium of your presentation to refer to is good too in case you lose your place or get off on a tangent.

Also, any questions you cannot answer simply tell the person you do not know and will research it and get back to the group with the answer (and then do this).

Speak loud enough to be heard, relaxed (like you are having tea with a friend) as the more formal you are you set the tone as formal and this creates tension and sometimes a sense of superiority which can alienate your audience, and realize that you are much harder on yourself than others.

The last bit of advice is to do it as often as you get the opportunity. Do it in the mirror and also record yourself so you can see what others see and work on anything you see that you do not like or find distracting. Always provide anonymous feedback sheets / surveys for your listeners to comment on the content, your effectiveness at communicating the material, if they will remember the points you made and provide a space for open comments and suggestions on how the presentation can be improved.

To be more confident,
- Know your subject matter well
- Imagine that everyone in your audience is naked so that you will not be intimidated by them.
- Dress smartly so that you feel the part

If you manage to think of the physical defects of others then you must be fairly confident in presentations already??

the mind truly is a terrible thing to waste. believe in your product and focus on the presentation.....not the defects.

proof read, practice, and repeat. If you prepare for a presentation ahead of time you will know that your work is done right, and will be more confident.

Just imagine all the people you're giving your talk to, to be all sitting naked on the toilet.
