I think I have racoons getting into the trash. I've tried putting bleach and anomnia inside and outside the grabage can, but they still get in it. Any suggestions would help because I am sick of picking up trash.

You need to lock the trash away in a bin or container that they can't open. Home Depot sells these and they really work.

I had the same problem. I had a two-fold solution that worked. I fixed the garbage disposal in the house so I didn't have to put food scraps in the trash anymore. I useds bungee cord to hold the lid tighter on the can, he couldn't get it open then. I think the key will be watching what you put in the trash. It was a pain doing all this, but it worked. It was better than picking up trash out of the yard every day.

Ahh, racoons can be clever little devils. But as Sami_V pointed out, the best move is to make the garbage inaccessible to the varment.

I have seen people in rural areas use a wooden or steel frame box that helps keep out the wildlife. Also weighting down the garbage lid works as with cement. I don't believe in the chemicals if it can be avoided.

Using chemicals, as suggested in your explanation as well as in some answers to your question, may be construed by animal rights groups as cruelty to animals!

The best solution is KEEP THE TRASH AWAY FROM OR OUT OF REACH OF THE ANIMALS!

I have a great solution. Hot sauce! A neighbors dog use to take a morning jog to my trash can. One day I left him a treat. Leftover chicken smothered in hot sauce. The dog couldn't resist, ate it and took off running. Didn't hurt him, but he never came back to my trash

Try cayanne pepper, dust over trash liberally and see what it does. I believe it's the same stuff that is used in pepper spray.
