Good Lord. I really wish the people that ask the questions on here knew how to spell...
The question is "Who IS the best basketball player in the world".
The mathematical of equivalent of IS? Equals. Therefore, we must believe that the questioned posed pertains to this moment in time, period.
The answer is LeBron James. He is incredible. He can dribble, shoot, rebound, defend, JUMP and generally play basketball like a nine year NBA VETERAN ALL-STAR. He makes everyone around him better (bye bye Kobe fans). He can defend shooting guards, small forwards and some power forwards.
LeBron James and Amare Stoudamire will save the crappy game that is the NBA. Five years from now, we will think of them (and a few others) the same way we have thought about Magic, Larry, Michael and all the other great players that have made the NBA worth watching.
There are at least 5 young guys that should develop into dominate forces in the NBA and make it worth watching again. None of them will make the impact the LeBron will.
For all you "old schoolers" blabbing about Bill Russell and the Celtics. Please, okay. Do you honestly think that the crusty old Celtics from the 60's would have won a championship in the 90's? Maybe at this moment they could, because the teams SUCK (generally). Yeah, Bill Russell would have been an "All Star" now but he was playing against a bunch of flat footed, no jumping White guys that ran the hundred yard dash in 13 seconds. Today, he'd just be a great player but not the Shaquille O'Neal of his time like he was then. So just clam up, time has moved on.

Bionic DJ Picc

The best basketball player that is playing is Lebron James.
The best white basketball player ever is Larry Bird.
The best basketball player ever is Michael Jordan.
If I could pick one player to build a team around, it would be Bill Russel. He was the best winner of any basketball player.
