I had the same situation a year ago and I had to help my classmate in her study. We would go over my place were I would explain her everything. The good side of it is that were both same age and I know what worries her the most and the things that I had troubles understanding before, I could explain better because I explained it(biology, history and Latin) simple short and without too many complicated phrases which professors tend to use to make their subjects more complicated when they're not.And as an reward we would watch a movie or play video games. And most of the times both of us would get excellent marks(I would practice my knowledge by asking her questions and vice verse)
but you should know that to help someone in his/her studies the person must be strong-willed and able to concentrate.I think that's the best way.I hope I was of some help.Good luck! :)
