Miami and Florida St. COMBINE for a grand total of 3 yards rushing in last night's game. There were 51 total attempts, so is this a tribute to the defenses, or just the coaches screwing up, or just a bad running game? What happened?

2 things going on here. Most significantly, this is what happens when two defensive lines (among the best in the country) line up against two suspect and inexperienced offensive lines. I don't care who is running the ball; if there is nowhere to run, there is nowhere to run. As far as the statistic itself, bear in mind that it is calculated differently in college than it is in the pros. In college, a sack counts as negative rushing yards for the quarterback, thus effective team rushing statistics. If you want to adjust statistics to look more like pro numbers, just add yards lost on sacks to team rushing yards.

State was a terrible running team last year....im not sure about miamis running attack.... but both teams are soild defensively with all americans scattered throughout.

Also, lots of offenses are slow to start in week 1. thats why they should do a week of preseason in college.

The defenses were good but not that good. There was a lack of offense for both teams. The offensive line play was terrible. I always liked John Madden because he really focused the average fan on the importance of good line play on both sides of the ball.
I think it is a lack of good offensive players on both teams rather than coaching.

Bad running game. Terrible offense.

Both teams are known for their strong defense and focus on the passing attack, which means very little ground output; I'm actually not surprised at all.
