I think in general the saintliest of people are not involved in the production of egotistic work. They quietly do good, expecting no particular recognition.
At the same time, I don't mind artists with a message. I'd rather hear something more real in a song than 'hurt me boy' or 'my bling is my thing'... It's just that I don't actually equate social-political commentary with saintliness.
A few years ago I read of a lady in Georgia. She was a washerwoman, and very frugal. Because of her hard work, because she lived simply, and because she had some luck in her investing, she actually had accrued millions of dollars. She didn't move into bigger digs, or buy a block long limo. She set up a fund to send Atlanta kids to college. Now what's telling here is that I don't really remember her name. And yet I admire her more than, for instance Bill Gates, whose name is burned into my brain.
Gates had to be persuaded to be generous.

I think that the spirituality and authority came from the message not necessarily the messenger.
IT is difficult to equate the modern pre packaged teenage-love-angst MTV videos or the trite-"Hug the Third World because my agents tells me to say these things" lyrics of modern music artists with the ranks of the Saints.

I have run art shows and science fiction conventions and my experience has been that artists and authors are like everyone else - i.e. some are nice and some are mean and oddly enough it has nothing to do with the quality of their work. Some of the nicest authors are not good writers, and some of the really talented writers are real jerks - especially if they let the fame go to their heads.

Absolutly!!! The way I see it history is only portrayed honestly in the eyes of an artist. Look at history-the real story lies in the artists work. Perfect example "Dixie Chixs" there new video is straight up the most honest political example of our current country. So when you look back and try to form your own opinion about controversy of the land; it's always in artwork of any kind. Nothing says it like they do.

by getting out in the real world and see how unfortunate other people's lives are and to understand the situation they find themselves in, as well as contribute in a productive way then yes. however, bono, sir bob geldof and the rest of them think they are saints by asking us for our money and to then throwing it at them, when really africa is still in the same **** and dire state as it was all those years ago. bono, geldof, blair however are not saints. angelina jolie is good though, as well as sean penn and ashley judd, in addition to a couple of others. as least they realise that financial aid isn't the answer to poor nations problems and they've done more for the less fortunate and for the poor people in comparison to what bono, blair and geldof have ever done by getting their mitts dirty and helping out whenever they can.

It takes more than just a mere way with words to consider yourself a saint and besides the things some of them do is definitely not saintly!!!

Some are saints, and some are devils. It depends on their characters. Any artist must make sacrifices but the question is why do they do it: to benefit others or for purely selfish reasons?

Modern-day saints are those following the words and teachings of Jesus Christ and try to live and do what is right always by obeying the commandments of God.
