Of the roster they had this time:
PG - Chris Paul - best floor general on the team
SG - Dwayne Wade - leadership/all around game
SF - Lebron James - versatility/passing
PF - Carmelo Anthony - best scorer/big enough to defend pf
C - Dwight Howard - best rebounder/shot blocker on the team
of the entire NBA:
PG - Kidd - best floor general in the league
SG - Kobe - This only stands if he can play like he should (team guy)
SF - Lebron James - same as above
PF - KG - Best all around talent, and can spot up
C - Dwight Howard - above reasons
bench:
PG - Chris Paul - same as above
SG - Ray Allen - great shooter/scorer
SF - Anthony - Showed he's one of the best in the game this summer
PF - Elton Brand - whole game is solid as a rock
C - Tim Duncan - wouldn't need to be the first option on offense
Defender - Artest - If you could get him to not worry about offense
Other - Shawn Marion - does everything and can play PF if needed

Someone said Ben Wallace...I think he showed that he doesn't really fit that well in the international game. The guy's great defensively, but a real liability on offense.
At center, I'd really like to see Tim Duncan there. I know he's old and I know he didn't have the best of showings in the last international competition, but he's smart on both ends and he had no real help last time.
At the forwards spots, I'd like to see Kevin Garnett. Again, great at both ends of the court. Can knock down the open jump shot and is unselfish. With Garnett, I'd like to see Lebron there. Though I wish he was more consistent of a shooter, his selflessness and willingness to get others involved and be the set up man was one of the biggest assets for team USA.
At point guard, Kidd would be the best fit. He's not as bad a shooter as people think and aside from being a great floor general, he's the best one on one defender in the NBA and has the IQ to play international team defense.
At shooting guard...Kobe. I know a lot of people think he's too seflish, but I think he's getting better at that and you need a guy with a killer instinct who's willing to take the big shots. Also, he is an underrated defender.
Off the bench...One guy I'd love to see off the bench is Ray Allen. He's versatile and can stretch the defenses with his tremendous shooting. That's one thing the current team USA really lacked.
Unfortunately, we won't get all these top notch players. However, Michael Redd, Paul Pierce, Kobe and others could still make the team for the Olympics.
Oh and to the guy who said Steve Nash...he's Canadian, not American.

I would say the Pistons championship team of last yr. and the year before. It isn't all about talent, it's about how they play together. The US could put up thousands of different teams and still have the most talented team. It's about chemistry. The Championship Pistons were the ultimate TEAM, and they would get it done. Not to mention they're pretty good individually, too.
Ben Wallace
Chauncey Billups
Rasheed Wallace
Rip Hamilton
Tayshaun Prince
Of course, you could have some stars come off the bench, especially Carmelo. I really liked him as a team and individual player this year.

Backcourt Players:
Kobe Bryant - SG
Ray Allen - SG
Chauncey Billups - PG
Rip Hamilton - SG
Kirk Hinrich - PG
Michael Redd - SG
Frontcourt Players:
Kevin Garnett - PF
Rasheed Wallace - FC
Marcus Camby - C
Dwight Howard - C
Carmelo Anthony - SF
Tayshaun Prince - SF
I would start Kobe at SF, Allen at SG, Billups at PG, Sheed at PF, and Garnett at C. My hypothetical team would be able to shoot well and defend all over the court. With the exception of Dwight Howard, all of the big men are mobile enough to defend the mobile bigs of the international game.

okay 1st off, spinfiresg, did you see Ben Wallace last time he played international ball? he was awful. He cant score, and okay he can block a shot but that only goes so far. And boredatwork, you are telling me Lebron James doesnt play a team game? Are you kidding me? hav you ever watched him play for 5 minutes of your life? You put Artest, Kobe, Michael Redd and Kevin Garnett on the team we have now, no way we dont win gold. and as for the guy that said Nash, its great to see the only NBA fan alive that doesnt know that Nash is a Canadian.

Who cares? We have sent the NBA players twice to compete in international competition. What happened? They haven't won Gold in those two times.
They better be glad I don't have season tickets to see that mess (the NBA).
We can't win in internation competition in baseball or basketball. How WACK is that? We invented both games and now we are a bunch of "Twinkies" in both sports.
Sure, the NBA players are fine "individual players". The problem is nobody is competing in "21" or "Three on Three" for international competition.
Since we are going to LOSE anyway, why don't we just send the Harlem Globetrotters or the AND 1 Mixtape guys.
Yeah, we can have "The Professor", "Head-ache" and "Hot Sauce" take on the finest the World has to offer. What do we have to lose?

LeBron James
Ben Wallace would be a huge presence on defense, while Kobe has much more experience and skill than the current rookies on the USA team.
But anyway, well done to Greece for beating USA.

A team that has players that know each other and have had experience playing with each other. They also need excellent three point shooters and free throw shooters. Just add in the traditional american athleticism here and there and you've got a good team.
