The Yankees, if they continue the way they are have a chance to enter the World Series. The problem is that the American League is far more competive this year than the National League. With the Yankees, its a matter of who they are facing in the playoffs, while on the National League, most say that the Mets or the Wild Card Winner are making it to the World Series. But if the Yankees continue on their run the way there going, they will have the same threat they always had in past years. But look for an elimination if the Yankees face the Angels in the playoffs.

If you asked this question before Abreu I would say no. But with Abreu i say yes. I'm not saying that Abreu is a one man god. But I am jsut saying that since the acquisition they have been playing rediculously great baseball. Here are some points on why i believe they have a legitamite chance this year.
Point A) Randy Johnson is constantly being criticized, but last year he was one of the best pitchers post All-Star game. Right now he is on pace to do the same.
Point B) The acquisiont of Corey Lidle gives the Yankees a solid 5th starter this year...rather than the combined garbage of Chacon and Ponson
Point C) A-Rod is out of his slump after his monsterous series against Minnesota batting over .400 and with 5 HRs in 3 games.
Point D) It seems that everyone in the Central is fading. A month to two months ago they Yankees had no chance of catching the Tigers for best record in the AL and for that matter the Mets for best in the MLB. They are now about 3-4 games away from each.
Point E) Speakign of the Mets. They are playing in a terrible National League. let them play AL all year and they will not be as hyped up
Point F) Mr. MVP Derek Jeter is having a phenominal season, and he always gets better in teh playoffs
Point G) The only team that really will scare me for the yankees is coming out of the west.
Point H) They never really have this scary of a line up going into the playoffs ...come one Damon, Jeter, Cabrera/Abreu, Giambi, A-rod, Cano, Posada, etc.
Point I) Speaking of Damn holy crap what a year he is having.
Point J) The boss wants nothing less!
Point K) They have the experience to get through the playoffs...This will be the first trip for the Tigers in waht seems like forever. It's highly unlikely that the ChiSox(If they make it) will repeat in my opinion. If the Twins make it, well they just destroyed them in the seaon series. And if A-rod stays hot against them, than watch out.
LET'S GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...... BOSTON SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Yankees have an excellent chance, and here's why. They've owned many of the best teams in the league this year, without a couple of their best players and run producers. Their pitching has been solid and is even getting good looks from some of their young arms like Jeff Karstens. Johnson is looking like the hall-of-famer he is finally, even without the heat he used to have. Wang has been stellar and next to Halladay and Santana I'd put him up for Cy Young contention. Mussina will be coming back shortly too, and will be pitching like a champ in order to facillitate negotiations to bring him back next season.
They could've swept the Chi-Sox a 2nd time this year, but fell short. They split with the Twinkies but Liriano will only be back as a reliever at best, and Santana can only pitch so many times in a 5 game series. They threw a couple beat-downs the Tigers way, and we all know what they did to Boston IN FENWAY!!! As long as they keep getting healthier, and oh yes, Matsui & Sheffield will be coming back, I don't think there is anyone who can stop them in the playoffs. In the World Series, the Mets will be there, but they have no experience in the big show same as they didn't in 2000.
One can very well say the Yanks will have bought themselves another championship, and for all intents and purposes that's true. But isn't that the purpose... putting together a team that will win a championship? Don't hate on the Yanks just because Steinbrenner is a good businessman who built them into an empire and made enough $$$ so that he can buy championships. Blame baseball for not amending the rules and implementing a salary cap like in football.

The Yankees have a CHANCE to win, but will probably fall short. It's always been said that winning in October is due to pitching, and the Yankees do not have the best pitching in the AL. The Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins hold that title. Should the Twins win the wildcard, with Santana (and Liriano, if he recovers) I could easily see them in the World Series.
The Yankees have a lethal lineup of bats, but they are lacking the BIG stopper - do you really think they can rely on Chien Ming-Wang if it comes to an all-important playoff game to stave off elimination? He's pitched well this year, but I don't think so.
Yes - of course the Yankees have a shot, just not the best.

The Yankees are always the team to beat in the AL.
Look for a Subway Series: NYY vs. NYM
NYM come out as the champs and embarrasing George and his boys.

Hell Yes!!
They're starting to click on all phases of their game. The offense is putting up good numbers and the pitching isn't losing games for them. That combination is going to get them into the Series and that same combination will win it for them.
Yankees Win ttttthhhhhheeeee Yankees Win!!

I think they have a very good shot at this point. The only team i would worry about the Yankees losing to is the Angels.
