(If you have deleted the icons accidently)
Yes you can place them back, thats what you've gotta do...
Goto the icon (eg from 'Programs' menu) and right clikc on the icon you wanna place on desktop (as you said computer screen but the exact word is your desktop).
Now when you right click a menu will appear with an option "Send To" take your mouse cursor to it and a pop up menu will appear with an option "Desktop (create shortcut)" click on it and the icon will be displayed as a shortcut on your computer screen (desktop).

OR

RIght click on your desktop and a menu will appear goto
> Arrange icons by
> Show Desktop Icons

Thanks!

There is two ways to put icon on the computer screen(desktop).
1)Go to the location where the desired file is located.
'Right Click' on the 'FILE' and move mouse pointer to 'Send To' and then move mouse pointer to 'Desktop(Create Shortcut)' and click on it,now you have icon of the file on Desktop.

2)
a) 'Right Click' on the Desktop(computer screen) and move pointer to 'NEW' and then 'Shortcut'
b) Give the required file location by clicking on 'Browse' buttion and click 'Next', Give the name and the click 'Finnsh'.
Enjoy!
