I'm over 40 and am curious about how many young people know and appreciate their "rock and roll heritage" I have a collection of over 10000 songs from that era. However, there are have a lot of songs from the 80's forward I like.

I believe good music is timeless and we shouldn't decide whether we like a particular song just because it's not a current hit.

I'm 23, and I prefer the older stuff more than anything recent (well Metallica may count as being recent, even though I appreciate their 20 year old stuff more). My absolute favorite group is The Mamas and the Papas. Others I love are Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, CCR, Queen, The Cars, Rush, Dean Martin, Louis Armstrong, and much more.

But just because I usually prefer older music to what's current doesn't mean I don't like modern music also. I love the Black Eyed Peas, Jewel, Kelly Clarkson, anything involving Jack White, Keith Urban, etc.

I think I like older music better because it seems more genuine, more well-crafted, and less manufactured. And most of all, much less superficial. Most music of today focuses on 3 things: sex, money, and looks. Yeah, sometimes it's fun to listen to those songs, but they kind of leave you empty inside.

i'm 25 and that i appreciate rather some the music from the 60's & 70's that my mothers and fathers listened to whilst i became a newborn. a number of my favorites incorporate: Queen Led Zeppelin Eric Clapton Lynyrd Skynyrd Fleetwood Mac Moody Blues David Bowie The Beatles Roy Orbison Stevie Ray Vaughn whilst i became in severe college I prefered determination rock...I nonetheless like the communities that have been regularly occurring back then, yet i've got through fact stopped listening to radio stations that play the latest, maximum regularly occurring music. i won't be able to stand it. as quickly as I hear to the radio, I save it tuned to a station that performs a effective form of music from the 60's, 70's, 80's, or maybe though else they want.

From the 50's? I honestly can't think of anything from that era that I like to listen.

From the 60's? Hmmm, there are some interesting early stuff from such band as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, but not much. I can tolerate Rolling Stones, but Beatles makes me gag. Sorry, but they're just way too overrated and overplayed.

From the 70's, there's certainly much more to be liked, since this is the time when both Heavy Metal and Progressive Rock started. Other than the bands I mentioned, such bands as Black Sabbath, Genesis, Yes and Queen also stand out in my memory.

BTW, I'm 36

I think old music can be good. I like John Denver and Pink Floyd. I'm in my early 20s. I also listen to newer music. I like Institute, Everclear, Bush, Mae, ICP, Rammstein, Mindy Smith, Counting Crows, Pearl Jam, Green Day, The Cranberries, Smashing Pumpkins, Third Eye Blind, and Interpol. I like others as well to a lesser extent. Wow, over 10,000 songs, that's a lot. My music collection is worth more than my car. That's not saying much though. I listen to what I like. I try things out over the net and if I like the music I go down to Hastings and buy it. Just because music is old doesn't mean it's not good anymore. I don't like TV or video games, but I do like music. I still use a cd player. I don't care for mp3players, but some do. I like holding the cd. I like the artwork on the album and what-not. I agree, music can be timeless, whether it is old, new, popular, or unpopular. My three favorite songs are "Mountains" by Institute, "Sunflowers" by Everclear, and "The New York Times" by Everclear.

I'm 15 and I absolutely ADORE oldies from the '50s to the '80s. My favorite artists include Elvis, Fats Domino, Tony Bennett, the Supremes, the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, the Beetles, the Carpenters, the Beach Boys, the Go-Go's, Pat Benatar and Billy Joel. It's really too bad that they don't have that kind of music in this decade. Much of today's music just doesn't have the same charm that the oldies had.

I'm under 40 and I love the Beatles, David Bowie and the Who.

I long to hear more of Donovan

I also rail for Elvis Presley to be called "classic rock". Jailhouse Rock and Suspicious Minds are great.

Also, I don't want to forget Bobby Darin. And BTO is alot of fun.

But even before that, some of the "Hit Parade" stuff would suprise today's youth as to just how great it is: Perry Como was WAY ahead of his time.

I love Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Elvis Presley, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Temptations, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, The Supremes and many others. I think a lot of the modern artists SUCK!! I'm only 24 and I love all this music. I love listening to this music as it relaxes me a lot. That's all I listen to on my iPod.
