Why do people care more for celebrities in death then in life? People cry and boo-hoo like they know these people personally. They don't know anything about how they treat their families, they don't know about the real person and not the TV/movie characters, they don't know what type of people they really are. They see an image on Tv and assume this is who that person really is and not an act for ratings or money. We all know people put on aires for television or movies so why do we pretend they are the characters they play in death. We all know that years after someone of fame dies you learn all their dirty little secrets. Why do we care so much? Would they care about you? Do they even know you exist beside your faceless contribution to their movies or cause of the week. If you died would they cry?

I think people who are celebrity freaks are morons. That said, there is a difference between the meteor celebrity and the long lasting star, who could be a singer, musician or actor, for example. In those cases, I think people cry (or at least feel down) because of their own mortality. Let me give an example. I really like Harrison Ford as an actor, he's been around ever since I was a kid (I'm in my early 40s now) and I can't remember of any film he has done which I didn't find at least a little entertaining. I know almost nothing about him and haven't even seen any interview not related to a specific movie but, if he died, that would have a double effect on me. One is that, I would know that never again I would be able to see a new Harrison Ford movie (and even the old ones would feel different). The other, and most important, is that I would feel as if a reference in my life died and be remembered that I too am getting old and will soon die also. It is kind of like when you see a landmark brand (like Pan Am) disappearing). You don't really "cry" for it, but for yourself, just like in that verse, "they toll for thee".

I cried when the Pope died and when Princess Diana died, they were not really celebrities I know but they were constantly in the public eye. If someone like John Travolta or Oprah passed away I'm sure I'd be sad for their families....but cry? Probably not.

As for me, hmmmm would they cry? I'm sure my family and friends would be upset and cry, especially my immediate family , my closest friends and my boyfriend. I wouldn't want them to cry only out of sadness, I would want them to cry because I had a happy and fulfilling life filled with love. Sounds corny I know but who would want their family that they love so much to be so sad?

I looked up your profile and read another question you posted that made you think this long winded one up.
Would people cry if you died?
Have you heard of reincarnation?
If you return as something other than a gnat, I am sure you would hope someone had a heart and cared for you. People who devote their lives to animal conservation with enormous passion are to be revered.
Don't be so quick to judge and never assume.

No they wudnt cry if i died but atleast what the do and they contribute is what i respect not thinking about myself but for them for example: Steve Irwin was a conservationist and showed people what he did and gave us information.....I cried when he died but for the reason of what he did...his passion for his work....and i respect that......also i will miss him...it doesnt matter if u know the guy or not .........u should respect the things he did for nature..and the way i see it HE WAS A HERO. RIP STEVE IRWIN !! I SALUTE YOU!!!!!!! and by the way u shud start thinking about other people than urself.............
