The last time I drove my car was 3 days ago. The Check Engine light was never on and today it was. It still ran. I drove for maybe 3 miles. I brought my brother to school and back. Do you have any idea what I should look for that might help me save a trip to the mechanic? Thank you very much guys.

Make sure your gas cap is tight.
If you go to Auto Zone they will scan the code for you for free.
That will tell you what you need to have repaired.

it i were you i would drive the car to either auto zone.. or OReiley's and tell them your check engine light is on... and have them do a free code check on your car to diagnose the computer and that way you will be ahead of the game.. It may be a simple fix problem or may be more serious. They should do it for free. this way you will know the problem even before you have to take it to a Mechanic to have it fixed if you cannot fix the problem yourself

Good luck and have a stupendious day.

probably an emmissions issue
if you dont notice any drivability difference
then i would not worry about it

also pull the code with a code reader
autozone will do this for you

one way to fix the problem is to put electric tape over the light
then you wont think about it anymore j/k
