In my opinion, it depends on the age of the couple.

Teens and 20-somethings would be wise to hold off until they've dated for a while.
I say this based on my experience, where the libido rules the brain, not common sense.
More than likely, first-date sex will be without protection against pregnancy or sexually-transmitted diseases.
Those kind of consequences create panic in the young, inexperienced dater.
And more than likely, that first-date sex will be the last time a chick will see the guy (he got what he wanted!)...and we're even seeing a few chicks dating just to score and split (another notch on the lipstick case!).

By the time most people are in their 30's, they've dated around and can make some rational choices in their partners - although that is not always the case.
But the key is that 30-somethings ARE MORE RESPONSIBLE for the consequences of their actions.

I've done it before and the relationship ended badly. That's not to say that I wouldn't do it again, cause that guy just turned out to be an ar*se. As long as you are protected and you are honest about whats going on... it's ok.

I also don't see why a man would lose respect for the woman. It takes two to tango you see, why shouldn't a woman be able to get hers if it's ok for a man to get his?

It depends on who you'll date. I could quite imagine two people meeting eachother for the first time and being utterly unable to resist eachother. Then again, it wouldn't be much good to have expectations going into a date - no matter if it's the first, second, third or whatever.

If you're worried about the guy losing interest if you do, then consider this: as long as a guy is a complete jerk, it doesn't matter if you sleep with him on the first date vs. waiting until the tenth...he'll still be an a--hole. So, while I'd suggest getting to know the guy better before getting intimate, it's really up to you.

Of course, although depends if you want a lasting relationship!! It is a bad habit of mine. Lol. I put out on the first date to both of my long term but ex boyfriends and didnt to my current, very lovely boyfriend. What do you make of that?

It is if a first date is all you ever want to get. You may get more afterwards but you take a big risk and give the impression that you will not be a serious prospect

if you put out on the first date, you have less chance of a long term relationship. more like a one night stand. If you care you wait!

Sure its ok as long as he leaves the money on the dresser when he is done. On the other hand if your doing it for free, well poor people get affordable housing why not an afordable whore?

IF you want to be thought of as something else, then act like something else.

Of course it is. If a guy does a runner after you do the chances are he was gone anyway. The "putting out has nothing to do with it".
