Will they offer state funerals to all the firefighters and rescue teams that gave their lives so that others could live? What about military people that have to face almost certain death when they go into combat? Are any of these people to be recognized as much as steve?

I don't think that they are having a state funeral, his family don't want it. They are absolutely right not to want it, he was an ordinary guy and his funeral should be attended by his family and those who new him and will be genuinely affected by his death. It should not be attended by those who didn't know him personally, voyeurs and those displaying synthetic grievance, and those would form the majority, also should not attend. Like Princess Di's funeral, it would descend into a competition to see who could display the greatest amount of false grieving. Leave such occasions for those who are genuinely, and deeply, affected by his death.

I doubt think so. Diana was a beloved international icon whose influence spanned the globe. While Irwin is internationally recognized, I do not think people will attend his funeral with as much fervor. Like the other poster before me stated.. only time will tell.

Not being disrespectful to him or anything, but I'm sure his funeral will not have more viewers than Princess Di. And, yes you're right...he was a great guy.

I don't think so. I'm sure his family will want something private, as his death was so public. He was a famous enviromentalist not a royal! Bigger than Princess Dianas funeral?! Don't kid yourself! How the hell can you compare him to Princess Diana?!

Yes....I fully agree with you....and I don't think it is that much necessary to compare this funeral with that of with Di's; because both were admired and loved throughout the world. The name of "Crocodile Hunter" has become a household everywhere. I salute him and his love for environmental activities.
