well, you could take classes. personally, i think the best way to learn french is by going to france (or another francophhone country) and immersing yourself in it. there is a languagre school which offers immersion courses- it's called Eurolingua. my brother went to france for four months with them and is almost fluent now- that is to say, he speaks like a native, but he probably doesn't have as wide a knowledge of the language as actual french people. but who does...?
give it a try, it's probably worth it.
