ive often thought that,theres always a rich family member or friend hidden away somewhere or they have contacts who do them favours,u need money to make money i reckon.

Good point re: partners. But whole point of self-made is usually, parents weren't millionaires and they worked hard to reach millionaire stage.

I don't think the term refers to solely self made. It means, the millionaire didn't inheret his/her millions. Everyone has a support team, you are right.

In rare cases people can be self made millionaires ... it's not something you see a lot ...

I see what you mean but there are some people like Alan Sugar who started up collecting up empty bottles when there used to be a deposit on them and selling them back to the shops.
