I have a 9am class too...it's great fun.:-) You should get up earlier than you normally do, and go to bed at an earlier hour. Take a whatever temperature shower you usually take, and before you get out, turn it on REALLY cold for just a few seconds. I would suggest doing some stretches before class as well, so when it comes time to stretch, you are already a little ahead. Also, this might seem weird, but if I'm having trouble picking up exercises, I do a few math problems in my head. It gets my brain moving so I don't feel as tired. You should definitely eat breakfast before you go- something light is good. You shouldn't eat a really heavy breakfast right before you exercise, but you also can't dance well on an empty stomach. I don't really think it matters whether you do exercise early in the morning or later in the day. However, I suppose you're more susceptible to injury if you're tired and not paying attention. So if you get a good night's rest and follow some of those tips, you should be ready to dance at 9am! Good luck!

Starting at the bottom and working up -- yes, it is healthy to do exercise first thing in the morning. But the secret is not to jump out of bed and start ballet classes. Get up a little earlier and give your body a chance to wake up. Also do a very careful warmup before you start class.
I took ballet at 9 a.m. every morning when I was at university, and it was a 3 hr. class.(I did a dance minor) What worked best was getting up early, having breakfast, getting some homework done, then going to school and taking class. Make sure to drink enough water -- you don't want to slosh around, but sips of water really help keep you going.

I used to do my ballet classes on a Saturday morning around 9am. I personally never found it a problem, although it was just a case of warming up first. I used to eat breakfast after, but have a drink before hand. Get out of bed and go! It is worth it in the long run!

I suggest you get up earlier. Don't have breakfast until after your class. Your body can be a little less flexible in the morning, so warm up & stretch really thoroughly. Having said that, the Royal Ballet School students have their classes in the morning. I guess it rather depends on whether you are a 'morning' person or not. Don't give up until you have given the new class time a fair trial & talk to your teacher about it.

9am? That's quite a reasonable time I reckon. I've been at work for an hour by then!! I would suggest getting up earlier than just to be on time for class so that you're properly awake by 9am. Go for a walk outside for half an hour to wake up with the fresh air and have breakfast as soon as you get up. I would also eat fruit for breakfast and not heavy things like porridge which would make you feel sleepy.
I wish I could be bothered to exercise before work but I'm too rubbish at getting up. I'm hugely impressed!

I'm a competitive dancer and I sometimes have to compete in the morning. I notice that I perform a lot worse. But I think everyobdy is in the same boat. If feels worse to most of people I know, but it doesn't mean you're getting insufficient training.
You definitely have to take good care to warm up if you have to dance in the morning. For evening classes, your body is already somewhat warmed up from the daily activities. In the morning, your joins have to go from complete rest to serious work. Make sure you warm up.
Also, I think it has to do with my brain not fully awake in the mornings. Believe it or not, dancing takes a lot of brainpower.
Just stick with it, don't be hard on yourself, maybe try waking up even earlier, but in this case you'd have to go to bed earlier, too.

Running develops different muscles to ballet. Well the same muscles but in different ways, you'll end up with massive calf muscles, which is not the aim in ballet. It will make your lines look nasty, and lines are very important in ballet, you'll never get "professional" if you don't have good lines. Plus running is bad for your joints and gives you mega shin splits, which makes it nasty to dance. I like to jog but I don't now because it plays havoc with my ballet training.

You aren't the morning type, like myself. So just go running after work/school or whatever you do.
And get to a ballet session in the evening.
