Right, there are many hypocrates out there who just talk for the sake of talking. And as far as I know, there are only few numbered of celebrities who do some give money to the poor, but I think the majority contribute usually with very minuscule amounts compared to what they have.
Okay, they are free however to give to the poor or not, but at the same it would be nice if each month celebrities contribute a fixed percentage to the world in order to mimize poverty in the world...better than talking. If they only did!
As a member of the public, I myself usually give 5th (20%) of my incoming salary to the poor periodically, and I consider this my obligation to humanity.

Since it is their money, it's really not our business. Often, celebrities who speak about these things give a LOT of money to their chosen cause, just not publicly. In any case, they draw attention to the cause, and usually the world listens - because we are all quite stupid and believe that if a celebrity speaks it must be worth listening to. Wouldn't it be nice if, instead of worshipping at the altar of celebrity, we listened to these countires when they appeal for aid to the UN? Then we wouldn't need people who can cry on command to tell us how to feel and what cause to support.
And by the way - Bono could give his whole earnings for the rest of his life, it won't accomplish what he's looking for. We are a global village, we are all responsible, not just the wealthy.

Hello all,Well let me tell you what I think..I think some or allot of them our just out for their own agenda..They complain that we need to help these other countries then complaining that we are not helping the right ones..I want to know when they and all of us will decide to help our own country..
Anther thing to add is back when we went to war in WW2 the celebrities stood up for this country some quit their day jobs and fought for this country now all they do is complain about all of it.I'm tired of listening to their crying and complaining.
If they really want to help the people they need to help the ones right in their own countries..I do understand that some countries our to poor to have people that will help..But I do think we need to put our people first. If you live in America then they should be first on your list..If you live in Africa then they should..And so on..I do feel sad and upset when I see families hungry and in war torn countries but we have homeless and starving families right here in America..And let me tell you I have taken several families into my home because they have been told one parent working 9-5 making 5:15 and hr is to much money to receive assistance..And more thing we need Prayer back in our schools and our streets..Let the 14% that don't believe in God go and find their own way..God Bless you all LoveSong

While celebrity is a good platform from which to make one's opinions heard, I too would like to know how much money they give to these causes they promote although it's really none of my business. I think a lot of it's hot air, and I do find myself wishing a lot of them would just shut up and be pretty or whatever it is they do for a living.

Sincerity is about doing what one believes in. There are some who believe in self help. Others believe you need to be cruel to be kind. Still others believe in teaching someone to fish and not just give a meal. The list goes on. At least they did something about it and that's is a lot better than pontificating in judgement. Whatever the motivation, the receipients are not complaining.

When celebrities speak, the people listen and many support the cause. It's good information dissemination as well.
It also make you think personally what you can do?

that what i thought. like oprah, she kept going on and on about how bad it is in south africa, but just look at her houses in so many places. living in the lap of luxury, but she encourages ordinary people to give money to her organization.
and bono, too. what a big bully.
