I don't understand swimming trunks. They have a white pouch (it looks webbed) that provides no support whatsoever. It can't be to absorb moisture either because think about it, they're in the water anyway and the material of the shorts is water resistant.

Does anyone know what it's for and does anyone cut it out?

Since most men do not wear any other type of underware while wearing a swimsuit, the mesh pouch is there to support our 'stuff' - kind of like a built in jockstrap. Also, since the material that swimsuits are made from is generally thin, the pouch also adds a little more protection against the thin material clinging to our stuff and displaying our goods to every one when we get out of the water.

Yes, I have cut the mesh out of a couple pair of trunks I own. One pair in particular, because I wear them as shorts a lot and do not swim in them. Another pair because the mesh pouch was 'scratchy' and uncomfortable.

The second layer of cloth provides enough cover that your privates will not be visible through your suit when it is wet and hugs against your skin. On more expensive suits it does act as a support and helps to keep everything from flopping around to much.

It's there to keep the mouse in the house, so when you sit down, it stays put.

it also prevents adherence so no one can see your "form", as it were
