i think that those who don't want the olympics; i.e myself and yourself should be exempt from paying for it and those that want it, should pay for it. on the other hand, the NHS is in dire needs of funds as well as schools, and so the money from the olympics should be allocated to various hospitals and schools. and alas, what's going to happen afterwards when it all ends? its going to become another millenium dome/white elephant fiasco of which we are unneccessarily going to be burdoned with, that's what.

No. But we could give the President line item veto and take 1 percent to the money saved from those pork barrel projects and fund both at twice the cost of the 2012 Olympics.
OBTW the cost of the 2012 Olympics doesn't come from the Federal Budget.

I'm a Londoner....one of those mugs who has been forced to stump up for the privilege of hosting this mess.
No doubt, in 2012, I will be one of those insignificant little people forced to suffer endless traffic delays, inadequate public services and lack of public transport, while the world looks on.
we have been deliberately misled by the politicians on how much this is going to cost (the sports minister says it will not go over budget!!! ...... but refuses to put a cap on the cost, so when it (obviously) goes over budget, we, will end up paying the extra)
A) Is it a waste of money? definitely
B) Should we cancel it? I am undecided - possibly not at this late stage
C) If we cancel, Should the money go to the NHS ? - No, I am a great supporter of the grass roots of the NHS,. but any new money seems to be taken up by middle management paper shufflers. I would rather see a huge shake up of the NHS, before throwing a lot of new cash at it.

No, of course not.
Sport a waste of time? You're crazy!
It's better to give the money earned on the Olympics to NHS or Schools.

There won"t be any 2012 Olympics in this country, cause we are getting an Australian Company to employ Polish workers at some £5/ hour to build the venues. If Wembly is any example we"ll be lucky to hold the 2012 games in 2016.

the olymics should bring in more than it costs as well as leaving some excellent sporting facilities for future althletes when the olympics is over - long term it is better to have the olympics than not, throwing money at the NHS and schools doesnt help them, yes they need more money but however much you give them they will still want more...

What are you going to do with the thousands of people relying on the Olympics to put food on their tables?
Construction Industry, Security, Catering, Marshalls, Organisers, Decorators, i could really go on..
All major sporting events are economic events that due to their existence employ thousands of people, both directly and indirectly.
What about travel and tourism?
Hosting a modern olympics is the best thing to happen to a modern economy, for everyone.

if you give the money to the nhs and schools, how much of it do you think will be spent on equipment? i would sooner buy a school or hospital what they need so i know the money has been well spent. the government will only give a small amount of money to the important causes, thats why all government backed offices are in a1 condition.
