If anyone's ever noticed, when skateboarders appear on TV or on commercials, they are always wearing full pads, but anyone who skates would know that this doesn't really happen in reality. Does anyone know why this occurs?

There are a lot of skateboarders on TV who in real life wouldn't wear pads just like the majority of skaters but on TV they do. There has to be a reason why besides "they want to protect themselves"

Jamestheflame you are forgetting one thing: skateboarders are mostly stupid people who don't care about any of the things you just mentioned, so I don't buy it.

Maybe so they can set an example for responsible skateboarding. So that if someone who isn't wearing a helmet has a head injury after skateboarding, they can't blame the people who make the commercial or tv show.

All sorts of reasons.

1) TV skateboarders/inliners/bmx'ers are professionals who know that when they are injured, they cannot perform and make money.

2) When you wear pads, you have extra confidence, knowing you can take a spill and not get hurt, and that allows you to take on the really gnarly tricks.

3) Most sanctioned competitions require use of full pads.

4) Finally, it sets a good example. Athletes who are good role models get more endorsements.

TV skateboards always wear pads because they want to protect themselves from getting hurt or injured.
