As you lay in bed, focus on relaxing every part of your body. Start with your toes and relax them. Then your ankles. Then you calves. Make sure that the body part is relaxed before you move on. You should be asleep before you hit your shoulders.

If not, you're too stressed out about something. Fix whatever is wrong in your life that has you stressed out.

This probably isnt the quickest way to fall asleep but it will ensure that you drop off without realising and also will result in a deep and very peaceful sleep.

Meditation at bedtime with some relaxation exercises. You close your eyes and empty your mind, then you start from our toes and you sontract the muscles and relax them 3 times before doing the same up the rest of your body.

If you are not asleep by the first time you go through this then try again, I am usually asleep before I finish 2 rounds of this!

Hmm, for me sex, or having an orgasm another way works, it always relaxes me ;-)

Also if you excersice about 1-2 hours before you go to sleep it also makes it easier to sleep, but this only works on the long run, not immediately.

The key is to make sure you are relaxed, because for most people the reason they can't sleep if because they are too keyed up, and have thoughts racing through their minds.
One really great relaxation exersice is:
lie flat on your back, or on your stomach, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, exhaling through your mouth.
Then focus your thoughts on your feet and take a few deep breaths, exhaling through your mouth. You should feel the tention leave that part of your body, and if you do, move up to the next part of your body, bit by bit, all the way up to your head. Once you have finished you should feel completely relaxed and will probably be able to get to sleep easier.
Good luck!

If I'm already in bed sometimes I play Tetris or puzzle bobble on my phone and the concentration usually makes my eyelids heavy. Otherwise I play word games in my head like trying to think of girls names that start with every letter of the alphabet and then do boys names and if I'm still awake, back to girls names. No repeats. If my mind is racing I visualise a black box in the corner of my mind with a padlock on it that I stuff all my thoughts into and then lock. Self relaxation techniques are good too. I remember seeing Kevin Bacon get hypnotised in Stir Of Echoes and I used the same words the woman said in the movie to relax and it has put me to sleep many times. If that doesn't work then watching the rest of the movie will have you in the land of nod in no time!

There's no quick way of getting to sleep I'm afriad, although you have neglected to rule out a good bang on the head. Warm milk, bananas and brazil nuts all contain substances that make you sleepy, a good diet and sufficient exercize should help- but try not to exercize to close to bed time, stick to a routine and get up promptly in the morning even when you don't have to, warm baths help, try using a lavendar bubble bath- you'll find plently of products designed to help in boots, or equivilent, don't start stressful and difficult activities close to bedtime, don't watch TV in bed, or use bed space for anything other than sleep or sex if you can avoid it, orgasms can also help you sleep! OTher than that, good luck!

Go for a walk, take a hot bath and just wind down. Don't read or watch TV close to sleep time, and make sure the bedroom is just for sleep - no TV, PC, etc. No caffeine for a couple of hours before, and certainly no food just before sleep. With your meal a few hours earlier, a slow release carb such as pasta is good for inducing sleepyness. Don't drink alcohol to sleep, as that's not "proper" sleep, it's a form of unconsciousness and you won't feel the benefits.

This will probably sound nuts but I listen to old comedy tapes like Hancock's Half Hour and Dad's Army and The Goon Show. I also listen to quiz shows like Just A Minute and Sorry, I Haven't A Clue. I think they distract me and put me in better mood.

Well I heard from someone that in case you take a bathe/bathtub before you sleep, it helps you go to sleep higher. I used to do that before and it really does work. When I are trying to fall asleep, I simply believe about random things generally, or possibly, i don't even believe at all.

I used to have trouble sleeping, but by using this method I don't any more.

When you're lying in bed close your eyes and imagine your body as a giant vessel, or bottle or whatever. Imagine that you are getting filled from the feet upwards, imagine the warm soothing liquid relaxing each of your muscles as it reaches them. Don't rush, do it nice and slowly.

I never get past my abdomen.
