i was wondering who pays the tv stations i know that they buy sitcoms and movies and show them for ratings so how do they get money for that and who gives it to them?

Have you noticed the constant interruptions of your shows that try to sell you things? Those are called commercials advertisements. The manufacturers of products create these advertisements and pay TV stations to annoy you with them. The higher rated the show, the more the station can charge to show the commercial.

advertisers, the better the station and the more popular it is the more companies will try to buy ad space on it. The ratings show the most popular time and the most popular shows which means all the companies want to buy ad space during that period, so it raises the price.

the reason bbc dont have adverts is because we all pay a tv liscence allowing us to watch the british broadcast. ITV and the others are independant channels so they earn there revenue through advertising.
