Egyptians are well known for the pyramids, ie buidling skills and masses of workers. And sophisticated writing. And some math - to build the pyramids and also to compute solar eclipses.
Aztecs I'd say about the same though their pyramids are much smaller, much less ornate, you name it.
From the Greeks I'd say we have much more. More literature (even though lots of it was lost). More philosophy. More theories about physics for example. More machines (steam-powered machines, concave mirrors, cogged wheels, clocks). Art at least on par with that of the Egyptians. A much larger civilisation, too, which continued to influence others for centuries or even millenia (think Middle Ages doctors still quoting Greek texts).
The Arabs? Great but rather AD than BC.
The Romans? Indeed they copied many Greek inventions (and art), but they also improved machines and developed new ones. They developed an ancestor to the crossbow. They had central heating systems in the villas of the rich. They had complete plumbing systems. They built sophisticated aquaducts. They had fast boats. They produced a vast amount of literature, scientific texts.
What about BC China? I'm too ignorant I'm afraid.
Bottom-line: I'd put the Romans first, followed by the Greek.

The Egyptians.
Why? They somehow had the technology to move around 70-ton blocks of stone to form the pyramids. Most egyptologists will say they were made of stones only up to 15 tons, but that's only the casing blocks. Heck, moving 15 tons without modern day machinery is hard work as it is (the best modern construction cranes can barely life 80 tons of weight). Now they organized it into the pyramids, the 3 most famous ones are the outline of the Orion Belt constellation, an exact replica. Then there is the Sphinx, which points exactly due East, and at the shortest day in the year (12/21) points to the Leo constellation.
It is wonders like these that make Egypt the most advanced civilizations, their mastery of technology, engineering, mathematics are all amazing.

Very good question. I think ancient civilizations emphasized depth whereas we, today, seem obsessed with breadth. Of course, I don't blame Google or CNN for developing our addiction to superficial news and information. But it seems that technology has driven us to become more concerned about the world at large than the world we embody (which, I agree with you, contains a vast repertoire of psychic, creative and perhaps mystical abilities that we neglect to tap into). We seem to have lost the sense of the sacred, and take everything for granted. We no longer notice the myriad miracles around us. We stopped paying attention to life (and yet, remain strangely obsessed about using medical science to postpone death!). I find it strange that most people I know want to be accessible all the time (via cell phone or blackberries, etc.) and be connected all the time. When do they find the time for solitude in order to develop depth and self-knowledge? I don't judge them, of course. I just worry that we might let technology take over our lives, and unwittingly abandon control over our consciousness.

well it couldnt be the aztecs or the incas cause those civilizations have develloped after 1000 AD.
Id say the Egyptians were the most advanced in science, astronomy, building. they lacked some skills in military which they then took back from their invaders (the wheel and the horse). this was the longest lasting civilization, 4500-5000 years of civilization!

I'm not sure how far BC you want to go, but I've found a fascinating website (link below) which you may be interested in. Mu, Atlantis, Rama, Osirian, etc., these civilisations go back many thousands of years, but some may well have been more advanced than our own. They were destroyed by natural disasters.

Since we still have not discovered the real mysteries of the pyramids, I'd have to say it was the Egyptians. If you believe the theory that pyramids were - besides the obvious - cosmic energy concentrators/collectors, which is proven by the fact that when scientists try to measure inside pyramids, their lasers come up with different readings each time, and we don't even know a fraction of why they did that or how they knew... well, they get my vote.

Hi,,, you know,,,, we will never know the honest truth,,, but I would really like to say that the Mayan, Aztec, Inca,,,,, Indians of South America and Mexico,,, might have been some of the most advanced people ....
Sadly, due to the Priests destroying all or most of the written information, we will never know.....
Good luck...
