The art of writing will never be completely out of date - it's one of our main media for communicating ideas, visions, and thoughts. However, the publishing industry is going through rough waters because we're becomming more and more computer centered. I think you'll see more books on CD and interactive websites in the future as well as more downloadable novels because it takes up less space (and is actually more environmentally friendly - no paper!).

Writing novels won't go out of date until people stop reading novels, and there are no signs that that is going to happen anytime soon. Novels are fun to write, fun to read. They get out of date quickly, because the world changes so quickly, so, unlike non-fiction, they tend to have a short shelf life. But they can often be picked up for movie or tv presentation.

You don't clarify what you mean by this question, but at a guess, it has something to do with e-books vs. printed books, or people's lack of patience with anything longer than a 500-word short story...
Even if the world were to go entirely to e-books and no one ever read a novel printed on paper again (I hope I never have to live in such a world), someone would still have to write those novels. And since longer novels are quite popular these days (publishers prefer them, and people who buy books like to get 'more story for their money'), I don't see the novel in any form suddenly becoming obsolete.

Writing novels will never be out of date. There is nothing like curling up with a good book.

No.
As long as people have great imaginations (which I can see ending) there will be the novel. The graet thing about books is as you read them you can put so much of yourself into them. They are truly art in the eye of the beholder!

G'day Orchid,
Thanks for your question.
I don't consider that writing novels is out of date. After all, I enjoy reading them.

Walk into your local Barnes and Noble or Books-a-Million. Look around and then ask your question to a clerk or a patron.
Novels will remain although the short story and flash-fiction are hot sellers right now.

Nope....sooner or later you'll get tired of asking questions, reading answers and surfing the 'net. Then, eventually, you'll discover novels....the best entertainment in the world!
